The best walking tours and hiking routes in Lanzarote
For its privileged climate, striking landscapes and wild nature, the island of Lanzarote is an ideal destination for lovers of walking, hiking and trekking.l.
Los Ajaches
One of the best routes in Lanzarote would be the one through Los Ajaches, a volcanic site in Yaiza, located to the southeast of the island.
The enormous volcanic energy that shaped this land, oldest area in Lanzarote, can be felt even if it started more than ten million years ago.
This hiking route is considered to be challenging and difficult: consisting of six kilometres of arid and rocky soil with pronounced slopes, which can be made in about five hours and a half.
Itinerary:
This route starts in the village of Femés, located in the valley of the same name. As you make your way through it, you can admire the distinctive arid landscape of Lanzarote.

At the end of this scenic walk, at El Rubicón, you will be able to observe several pits destined to hold water, that were built by conquerors from Normandy in the early fifteenth century.
There also stands the castle of Las Coloradas, built in the eighteenth century to defend the island from pirate raids.
The culmination of this route is in Playa Blanca, there you will enjoy resting in one of the best beaches of the island.

Gracioseros trek
The Camino de los Gracioseros (road of the gracioseros) is a hiking trail recreating the road old inhabitants of La Graciosa took to come and go between the two sister islands.

This would be a medium-to-demanding route due to some complicated terrain and its length: about nine kilometres.
Itinerary:
Starting from the village of Yé, then going through the Risco de Famara and following the coastline until reaching the El Río area, El Río (the river) is the name given to the stretch of water between Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Throughout this walk you will observe wonderful vistas of the coast, with the island of La Graciosa always on the horizon.
Trek from Haría to El Bosquecillo
Starting from the spectacular Valle de las Mil Palmeras (the valley of a thousand palm trees) in Haría, this medium difficulty hiking route is seven kilometres in length, and has no signposts or markers.
Its last part will see you walk through El Bosquecillo, an area with small trees and bushes and a fantastic view to the Risco de Famara.
Itinerary:
Its origin is a northwest path to the Valle de Malpaso, the vistas into this valley, exuberant by the island’s standards, are our first gift of this walking tour.
Further ahead you can take advantage of the tables and benches of El Bosquecillo to rest and have a bite while enjoying the view to the Archipiélago Chinijo and the northeast coast of Lanzarote.
Caldera Blanca
The eruption that created Caldera Blanca took place less than 300 years ago, in 1730.
The characteristic volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote will accompany you on this route, the eruptions that formed them took place in different moments of the history of the island.
Further down the trail you’ll be able to observe the malpaís (badlands), an area composed of recent volcanic deposits and devoid of vegetation.
This harrowing, wasteland-like scenery also makes one of the more iconic postcard pictures of Lanzarote.

This hiking route is moderately easy and appropriate for people at all levels of experience, even with it being ten kilometres in length.
Its start is at the Virgen de los Dolores church, built precisely where burning hot lava stopped flowing, during the 1936 eruption.

Upon arriving at the top of the caldera you will be able to see the large crater in its entirety. It’s such a striking view! Furthermore, there are also magnificent vistas to Timanfaya National Park.
We offer you a tour to discover lunar landscapes, volcanoes, lava fields and volcanic ashes where you can observe the most varied forms and colours and different stages in life’s formation. The excursion takes place on the outskirts of Timanfaya National Park. Easy walk.
