Timanfaya National Park
Have you ever been to Mars? When researching the red planet, NASA astronauts use Timanfaya National Park as a point of reference. Its similarity is sure to inspire your imagination too. And how about the Moon? Lanzarote´s lunar landscape has more than two hundred visible craters – there is no place on earth quite like it. Its seas of twisted lava and volcanic tubes are skin to dreamscapes straight out of your wildest imagination.
Timanfaya National Park is the only national park of the Spanish Network of National Parks that is eminently geological and represents a sampling of recent and historical volcanism in the Macaronesian region. The volcanic eruptions that occurred between 1730 and 1736, and in 1824, gave rise to numerous structures of high volcanological interest. The absence of a mantle of vegetation, the extreme roughness of the forms and the variety of colours that exist (red, brown, beige, black and orange) next to the silhouette of the volcanoes and the abrupt coast, give the park an extraordinary beauty.
Restautant El Diablo
The building that houses “El Diablo” restaurant is the work of César Manrique, and is formed of several cylindrical one-storey structures.
The main structure, the restaurant itself, is completely enclosed in glass, which allows a panoramic view over the area at the same time as creating a sensation of lightness or zero gravity. This extraordinary integration of human creativity and nature gives rise to what is, without doubt, one of the most impressive works of art in the world.
While the ovens of El Diablo take advantage of the natural heat produced by the earth to prepare unique dishes, under our feet, at a depth of just 10 metres, the earth boils at almost 300 degrees centigrade.
The extreme heat rises to the surface and is reflected in unforgettable experiences that amaze the visitor.
The wine region. La Geria
The central plain that was destroyed after six incessant years of eruptions in the 18th century was transformed into the unique wine producing landscape of La Geria, thanks to the backbreaking work of generations of islanders. And there is much more to tell, you see, once experienced it.
