Shore Excursions Canary Islands and Madeira-LanzaroteExperienceTours

Lanzarote Experience Tours offers you a wide variety of shore excursions on Lanzarote, Canary Islands and Madeira.

Shore excursions for Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian, P&O, MSC, Oceania and more cruise companies…

How many times have you heard that Canarians have an open, happy character? It’s no surprise given that they live in a climate with an average temperature of 24ºC with no extreme cold or excessive summer heat. It’s enough to give anyone a sunny disposition.

There’s scientific proof that climate has an effect on our state of mind: Feeling the sunshine on our skin, breathing in fresh air, walking barefoot on the sand or gazing at a sky full of stars are moments that fill us with energy and refresh us from inside.

CANARY ISLANDS SHORE EXCURSIONS

Shore excursions are a great way to experience all that our destination has to offer

Maybe what comes to mind when you think of the Canary Islands is the Teide –the third highest volcano in the world–, but the islands’ volcanic origins offer so much more: it’s a constant feature of the landscape, an ancient and mystical force that endows these seven islands with beauty and character.

LANZAROTE SHORE EXCURSIONS

o step foot on Lanzarote is to discover a volcanic landscape so beautiful that it is impossible not be moved by it. The entire territory of the island has been declared a biosphere reserve and the Timanfaya National Park is a special highlight – a sample of the beauty of nature its purest state and a must-see. But, if Lanzarote is a volcano, peace and silence, it is also art.

The fabulous work of César Manrique, a universal native of Lanzarote, pervades the entire island. His view is reflected in the architecture of its villages and homesteads but also in the different centres that carry his name and offer a unique experience due to their originality and worth.

CRUISE EXCURSIONS ON LANZAROTE

Timanfaya National Park  with an incredible scenery (which transports us all to other planets such as Mars) is the product of the intense volcanic eruptions of 1730 and 1824, which buried this part of the island and created what is now known as Fire Mountain.

La Geria – land of wines and work

La Geria gives us a radically different perspective of volcanic territory. If, in the first case, a human touch is practically non-existent, La Geria represents the human struggle to dominate nature and extract from it the fruits required for subsistence.

Crop-growing land, La Geria is a succession of holes dug into the volcanic earth, in the centre of which a vine is planted and protected from the wind by a half moon of rocks.

Cactus Garden,

There are almost 1500 cactus species from all over the world here. Easy to spot from the road thanks to the large metal cactus at the entrance, this original garden was the last work by the wonderful César Manrique on the island of his birth and another example of the union between art and nature that dominated his work.

El Río Viewing Point

In the extreme north of the island of Lanzarote, El Río Viewing Point, almost 500 metres above sea level, on the Famara Cliffs, provides extraordinary views of the Chinijo Archipelago, formed by two small islets and by the island of La Graciosa, separated from Lanzarote by the strait that lends its name to the viewing point.

Jameos del Agua

On the way back to the boat, this suggested route turns towards Los Jameos del Agua – one of the island’s main tourist attractions, also in the municipality of Haría. Los Jameos is a volcanic cave with an underground lake that is home to a species of albino crab found only here.

Starting out with this creation made by nature, Manrique’s talent integrated an auditorium where all kinds of concerts are held, a garden of palm trees and one of the prettiest pools in the world, which can currently be visited but is closed for swimming. It also has a café and an exhibition room. All together, it is irresistibly appealing.

SHORE EXCURSIONS IN FUERTEVENTURA

From the sea, the island of Fuerteventura is emerald-green water and endless beaches of pure white sand with sparkling sun and a refreshing sea breeze all year round.

Inland, the island territory —declared in its entirety a UNESCO biosphere reserve— unfolds with a different, truly special beauty.

Perfect for all kinds of water sports or simply relaxing on endless stretches of sand and swimming in crystal-clear water, Fuerteventura also gives us the chance to enjoy its unique, local gastronomy, learn how its famous goat’s cheeses are made, or discover what it’s like inland – still deeply rooted in its traditional lifestyle.

CRUISE EXCURSIONS IN FUERTEVENTURA

The island of Fuerteventura is an appealing tourist destination appreciated world-over for its long beaches with their golden sand and clear, turquoise water, in addition to its rich gastronomy and an interesting range of cultural tours.

Starting out from the port in Puerto del Rosario, in the east of the island, you can drive to one of the greatest attractions in Fuerteventura: Corralejo Dunes, the fishing village, a living history route through La Oliva and the charm of the coastal town of El Cotillo.

Corralejo Dunes

On the north-eastern coast of the island of Fuerteventura, we find Corralejo Dunes – a stretch of fine, golden sand that is 10.5 kilometres long and 2.5 kilometres wide.

This protected nature area is home to 130 plant and bird species. You have to leave your car in a lay-by and walk over the dunes. We recommend taking a towel, water, sun cream, a swimsuit (there are nudist areas too), a kite and a board.

Barely an 8-minute drive from the Corralejo Dunes Nature Reserve is the town of Corralejo – almost at the northernmost tip of Fuerteventura. Half a century ago, Corralejo was a fishing village with low, white houses.

Now the town combines its fishing past with its present marked by beaches, the new port that connects it to the island of Lanzarote and a lively urban centre with restaurants and shopping centres. A mill from the old town remains in the Plaza de la Molina.

From the Corralejo to El Cotillo

We come to the fishing village of El Cotillo, on the north-western coast of Fuerteventura – a well-loved spot due to its numerous quality seafood restaurants and its beaches.

North of El Cotillo, there is a series of family coves with white sand and calm, turquoise water. They include La Concha Beach, one of the most famous on the island of Fuerteventura due to the quietness, beauty and quality of it.

LA PALMA SHORE EXCURSION
Taburiente national park
La Palma shore excursion

La Palma is known as “la isla bonita” (beautiful island) on account of its incredible scenery, its impressive volcanoes, its lush forests, its black sand beaches and its starry skies.

Declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve, the island is home to some of the world’s main astronomical observatories due to the extraordinary clarity of its skies.

The picturesque historic quarter of its capital, Santa Cruz, conserves the colonial atmosphere of centuries gone by.

Inland, a few minutes from the island’s ports, the Caldera de Taburiente National Park combines the exuberance of its forests with the majestic image of the peak of this old volcanic structure, which has a diameter of 8 km and looks like a “caldera”.

CRUISE EXCURSION IN LA PALMA

Due to its incredible landscapes and deep forests, La Palma is also known as the green island and the beautiful island.

In the north-east of La Palma is Cubo de la Galga, an area that you split into two different walks: a circular excursion around the most spectacular area of laurisilva or a longer route that connects the path with La Galga Mountain with San Bartolomé Viewing Point so you can continue walking as far as San Andrés and Sauces.

From the boat to Los Tilos Forest – San Andrés

La Palma’s star laurisilva is in the north-east of the island, 24 kilometres by road from the city of Santa Cruz and only 4 from the area of Los Sauces.

The road ends close to the Los Tilos Visitor Centre, which has themed rooms, video showings and a café.

We recommend the following two self-guided trails for visiting the reserve: a 2.5-kilometre one that takes us around the heart of the forest and another that goes up about 1000 metres to the fresh Marcos and Cordero springs, the first being the easiest.

La Galga, San Bartolomé Viewing Point and back to the boat

Easy enough to do with children or elderly people, the Cubo de la Galga Trail begins amongst scrub and little shrubs and ends up amongst specimens that are typical of the firetree and heath forest.

The trail is about 12 kilometres long with a maximum change of altitude of 750 metres, which means you can do it in about 4 hours.

LA GOMERA SHORE EXCURSION

La Gomera, declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve, is all about magic.

Furrowed by dizzying ravines, fertile valleys, exotic-looking palm groves and farmsteads in traditional architecture, the island has its own, different personality, with lots of little details that made even Christopher Columbus fall in love with it before leaving to discover the New World.

In San Sebastián, the capital of the island, the El Conde Tower bears witness to the scale of that first expedition by Columbus. Inland, the Garajonay National Park keeps a secret of priceless natural value – its laurisilva with over 65 million years of history.

EL HIERRO SHORE EXCURSIONS

Everything on the little island of El Hierro is peace and calm.

You’re immediately enveloped in a magical embrace of inner awareness and calm amongst its beautiful volcanic scenery, the green of its lush forests and its spectacular sea beds, which have made the island a paradise for divers from all over the world.

The short distances invite you to take a few hours to wander around El Hierro, peacefully enjoying the friendliness of the people, the flavour of the gastronomy and the extraordinary landscapes.

Everywhere in this singular island territory – declared in its entirety a UNESCO biosphere reserve– there is a special atmosphere with spectacular views, such as that seen from the La Peña viewing point, at a height of 1.5 km above a sharp and striking fault.

Below it, an immense plain covered in vineyards and orchards rolls down to the ocean, creating an image so beautiful that it is not easily forgotten.

From La Peña, you can also make out the Salmor Rocks, a sanctuary for giant lizards (endemic to the island) that has a recovery centre for ensuring their survival as a species.
