Discription of the tour

Your local tour guide will pick you up after you leave the terminal building and off you go on your today’s excursion to Madeira.

You will be taken to the center of Madeira, where dramatic, cloud-covered mountains fall down into green valleys – a spectacular sight.

Your first stop is at the lookout point Eira do Serrado, one of the most beautiful places in Madeira with breathtaking views of the fascinating mountains, the lush green valleys and the village in the Valley of the Nuns.

The journey from here down to the village in the Valley of the Nuns (Curral da Freiras) takes about 20 minutes. The Nonnental, a small secluded village in the heart of the island, where in the 16th century, the nuns sought refuge from the pirates who often attacked Madeira. Here you can still experience the rural side of Madeira and the typical village life, because the locals live of primarily from what they grow themselves. Every year, the locals celebrate the ‘Chestnut Festival’, which the village is famous for. There are many traditional recipes containing chestnuts which you can almost make anything out of, mainly different liqueurs, cakes, puddings and soups. The native chestnuts are very tasty and are used widely in the everyday kitchen.

On the way back you will stop in the charming fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. Characteristic of this place are the many colorful fishing boats docking at the harbor and the Lobos‘ Stockfish -which traditionally is hung out here to dry. This place is proudly remembered at the time when Winston Churchill was inspired to paint. Câmara de Lobos is also home to the “Ponchas“, a drink made from freshly squeezed lemon juice, honey and sugar cane brandy, which you can try in one of the many small bars.

At the agreed time your tour guide will then bring you back to your ship.

Discription of the tour

On the way, you will stop at the viewpoint Pico da Torre through the first traditional fishing village Câmara de Lobos (“cave of the monk seals”). Câmara de Lobos, located 3.1 mi from Funchal, was named by the discoverers João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira due to the shape of its bay and the many monk seals that lived there at the time. The fishing town gained fame as Winston Churchill immortalized the site on many of his paintings.

Our journey continues to Cabo Girão, one of Madeira’s most famous tourist attractions. At 580 meters above sea level, Cabo Girão is the second highest cliff in the world and the highest sea cliff in Europe. The bravest can venture out of the viewing platform with a glass floor to enjoy a thrilling adrenaline rush over the steep cliff.

Continue to Ribeira Brava and then north through the deep and narrow Serra D’Água valley. You will drive 3303 ft up to Encumeada. The lookout point of Encumeada Pass is located on the ridge that runs through Madeira. From here you can enjoy incredible views of both the south and north coasts of the island.

After that, you will go down to the north coast where there is a mile-long, picturesque Atlantic coast, where the mountains fall directly into the sea. After São Vicente, one of the predominant villages on the northern coast of Madeira, you will continue to the beautiful village of Porto Moniz. Here you will have approximately 1 hour of free time for lunch, as well as time to admire the natural pools surrounded by bizarre lava rocks. The shallow pools, whose crystal-clear waters are replaced by the flood daily, are a popular seaside resort of the locals.

Continue on a panoramic road up to Paul da Serra, a plateau at almost 4593 ft with breathtaking views and incomparable scenery. The last stop on this wonderful tour is in Bica da Cana with a fantastic view of the Massif Central before your tour ends at the harbor.

The Teide Mountain is undoubtedly the place that most identifies Tenerife.

The Teide National Park is located in the center of the island, at an average altitude of 2,000 meters, and its summit represents the highest peak in Spain, with 3,718 meters.

The Teide National Park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007. The structure of the boiler and the Teide-Pico-Viejo stratovolcano are unique on the planet. The park was created in 1954 in recognition of its volcanic and biological uniqueness. Its extension is almost 19,000 hectares, which makes it the largest and oldest among all the national parks of the Canary Islands.

One of the most exciting experiences that await you in the National Park is to get on the cable car. The base station is at 2,356 m altitude and the upper station at 3,555 m. The transit between stations lasts about 8 minutes. Once finished the tour you will enjoy extraordinary views from the viewpoint. Even if you have climbed the cable car to the upper station, you still can not say that you have been to the highest point in Spain. From here a path starts to ascend to the crater on foot. It takes about 40 minutes and the difficulty is high but you can boast to your friends that you have reached the roof of the country with a sock. If you are lucky enough to find a clear day, you can be enchanted by the sight of up to 4 islands from the top of this impressive mass: Gran Canaria, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera, as well as the island of Tenerife itself, which will be shown your feet proud of their beauty. To enjoy this unforgettable experience it is necessary to obtain a special permit that is requested on the web www.reservasparquesnacionales.es. It is advisable to book one or two months in advance depending on the time of year. The permit is free and is only valid for the selected date. If, due to weather or other reasons, the visit can not be carried out, the permit expires.

With this excursion to the Teide you will enjoy contemplating the volcanoes and knowing the history of how the islands of the Canarian archipelago were formed.

Finally, in the National Park there are two Visitor Centers open every day (except December 25 and January 1). The Portillo Visitor Center shows the geological history of the Park and the relationships between the living beings that inhabit it and their environment. The Cañada Blanca Visitor Center shows the interaction and influence between man and the Cañadas and Teide.

Discription of the tour

Survey the island of Gran Canaria from the top with this expedition to Pico de las Nieves. Along the way you will see the Roque Nublo, Cross of Tejeda and the charming village of Teror. See the natural wonders of Gran Canaria on this full-day small group tour.

Your journey begins with a comfortable, scenic drive to the mountains. This island is often called a "Miniature Continent" due to the different climates and variety of landscapes found. Gran Canaria agriculture is unique among the Canaries islands in that it was traditionally dominated by plantations, with much of these being grains as well as sugarcane, rather than by animal stock. Make a quick stop at a local farmers market full of fruits, vegetables and local products.

Continue to Pico de las Nieves, or the highest peak of the island, and be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Canary Islands. Make your way down the 1,949-meter volcano to the famous landmark Roque Nublo, an 80-meter-high basalt rock monolith. Located in the central municipality of Tejeda, Roque Nublo is considered one of the biggest natural crags in the world. An ancient place of worship for the aborigines, it was declared a protected natural space in 1987 and a rural park seven years later.

While in the town of Tejeda you will be greeted by the large stone Cross of Tejeda marking the entrance to the state run hotel the Parador National. Take a few minutes to visit the vendors and sample local Canarian products such as cheese, honey and fruits. Finally, you will make your way to the village of Teror, a place of pilgrimage for all the residents of Gran Canaria as the municipality holds in its Basilica the statue of the Virgen del Pino, Patron of the Diocese of the Canary Islands. Therefore, a visit to Teror means a visit to the Basilica.

Sign up today and be sure not to miss out on this experience, and don't forget your camera!
