Top seven best beaches in Lanzarote
Papagayo Beach
Papagayo Beach is located to the south of Lanzarote, this little jewel of a beach lays hidden between the mountains of the Ajaches Natural Monument. Papagayo would be your typically idyllic beach with a half moon shape, white sands, calm turquoise waters, a safe and virgin environment… Yes, visiting Papagayo is one of the best experiences offered by the island of Lanzarote.

Papagayo actually consists of a set of little coves connected one to the other. Keep in mind that reaching this beach means driving a car through a dirt road (motor vehicles must pay a small fee to access the beach). But it can also be reached by foot: there’s a charming path with the beach as a finish-line reward.
Remember, Papagayo is mostly unspoiled with the exception of a very small beach bar, so you will need to bring your own water or drinks, food, sunshades and anything else you may need in order to spend a great day at the beach.
Famara Beach
Located to the northwest of Lanzarote, Famara Beach is as popular as Papagayo but much bigger in size. Famara Beach stretches along six kilometres of the coast of Lanzarote, this means no crowds and plenty of space for you and your beach towel, making it one of the best beaches in Lanzarote.

Besides its length, Famara’s natural condition for the practice of sports would be its main appeal: surf, kitesurf, windsurf, bodyboard… A paradise for windsport and water sports! If you prefer a less adventurous plan, you may take a long walk by the coast, sunbathe on the golden sands and swim once the tide is low and the sea is calm.
From Famara you can also take on the beautiful sights of the near island of La Graciosa.
Caletón Blanco
How would you like to visit an idyllic cove considered one of the best beaches in Lanzarote? That is Caletón Blanco, a chain of small, white sands coves in northern Lanzarote, located in the Corona Volcano Natural Monument, near the fishing village of Órzola. Caletón Blanco will delight you with its crystal clear waters, white sands and black rocks of volcanic origin. A striking palette of colours and elements to make one of the best postcards from Lanzarote.

Half a kilometre in length, it also provides natural pools perfect for children to play in. Its proximity to Los Jameos del Agua, the Los Verdes Cave and Timanfaya National Park makes a planned visit of the four locations a must, and we have just that already prepared for you as part of our Lanzarote Experience Grand Tour.
Flamingo Beach
Another one of the best beaches in Lanzarote can be found on the coast of Playa Blanca: Flamingo Beach, a small cove of white sands and calm, turquoise waters; perfect for all the members of the family. Flamingo Beach provides all kind of services for your comfort (parking, restaurants, deck chairs, sunshades, showers and toilets), an ideal beach for those who want to play it safe having fun and relaxing in the sand with all the amenities of modern life.

Flamingo Beach is perfect in every season of the year, you can walk along its promenade and browse around the shops, and there are also restaurants where you can round off your day at the beach. The great quality of its transparent waters make Flamingo Beach a great place to practice snorkel or scuba diving, and meet some of the varied underwater flora and fauna of Lanzarote.
El Jablillo Beach
El Jablillo is a beach for the whole family. Located in the Costa Teguise municipality, to the east of Lanzarote. A proper list of the best beaches in Lanzarote couldn’t be without this quiet cove, 350 metres in length, with golden sands and turquoise waters. One of the most popular beaches in Costa Teguise, it is perfect for the whole family, the jetty keeps the waters calm and free from strong tides. Perfect for building sand castles!

El Jablillo is easily accessible by bus and car and provides numerous services, deck chairs and sunshades, showers and toilets, lifeguard service and a promenade with restaurants, bars and shops. There are plenty of hotels and apartment resorts. It’s an ideal beach to practice any level of snorkel or scuba diving.
It’s worth noting that El Jablillo has Blue Flag status, a distinction awarded to beaches of the highest environmental standards of quality.
Playa Grande
Located in the municipality of Puerto del Carmen, to the south of Lanzarote, Playa Grande is the most popular beach in the area, and it’s true to its name (it means big beach): more than a kilometre of fine golden sand, perfect for sunbathing, strolling, or swimming in the calm sea.

The seafront promenade of Playa Grande is as well-known as the beach itself and is one of the reasons why this is one of the best beaches in Lanzarote: bars, restaurants, shops and a very rich nightlife boost the urban aspect of Playa Grande.
This beach provides many services, making it comfortable for everyone. Areas reserved for the practice of sports, playground, showers, lifeguard service, sunshades and deck chairs. There is easy access for disabled. And to top it off, there’s also the view of the Ajaches Natural Monument.
Lanzarote Experience Tours has prepared a guided Tour: the Fire and Water Experience. It will take you from the volcanoes of Timanfaya National Park to the beaches of Puerto del Carmen where you can have fun on jet-skis or parascending. Don’t miss on this one!
Playa Quemada
With so much white and gold already present, we now feel the need to emphasize the volcanic nature of Lanzarote and highlight a different beach: because there are also many black sand beaches in Lanzarote, ripe with personality, that provide you with a more original choice. Playa Quemada, to the southwest of Lanzarote, is one of those beaches.

In Playa Quemada, saved for the sound of the waves, silence is king. One of the more peaceful and quiet beaches on the island, a reason good enough to include it in our list of the best beaches in Lanzarote. As you can see, there’s a beach for everyone in Lanzarote!

The beaches of Lanzarote possess a unique kind of beauty. To preserve this natural treasure it’s essential that visitors follow a set of rules, among which we highlight the next:
- Do not litter the beach! Please clean up after your visit, pick up your cigarette butts and rubbish, and make use of the available bins.
- The volcanic rocks of Lanzarote should not be taken home as souvenir. The environment has to be preserved and left as is.
