Discover Lanzarote through the eyes of César Manrique, the artist who transformed the island by creating a unique dialogue between art, architecture and nature. On this full-day tour, we will visit some of his most remarkable creations while exploring the volcanic landscapes that inspired his work.
From the spectacular scenery of Timanfaya to the underground world of Jameos del Agua, this César Manrique Lanzarote tour offers a fascinating journey through the island's landscapes, culture and artistic heritage.
Timanfaya: the volcanic landscape that inspired Manrique
Our journey begins at Timanfaya National Park, where we head to Islote de Hilario to experience the extraordinary geothermal activity beneath the surface.
Here, you will discover how the intense heat of the earth is still used to demonstrate traditional cooking techniques at El Diablo Restaurant, one of Manrique's most remarkable creations.
We then continue along the Route of the Volcanoes, a spectacular panoramic journey through the heart of Lanzarote's protected volcanic landscape.
Monumento al Campesino: a tribute to Lanzarote's rural heritage
We continue towards the geographical centre of the island to visit the Monumento al Campesino, César Manrique's tribute to the people and traditions of rural Lanzarote.
Here, we will also see the impressive Monumento a la Fecundidad, the striking sculpture that has become one of the island's most recognisable landmarks.
Fundación César Manrique: the artist's home
In Tahíche, we visit the César Manrique Foundation, located in the former home and studio of the artist.
Built into a landscape shaped by volcanic eruptions, the house was designed around natural lava bubbles, creating a remarkable combination of architecture and volcanic nature.
It is one of the best places to understand Manrique's philosophy and his vision of an island where architecture should coexist harmoniously with its natural surroundings.
Cactus Garden: nature transformed into art
Our next stop is Guatiza, home to the spectacular Cactus Garden, another of Manrique's iconic creations.
Designed within a former quarry, the garden combines volcanic stone, architecture and vegetation in a remarkable setting. It is home to more than 1,000 species of cactus from different parts of the world.
Mirador del Río: Lanzarote from above
We then travel north towards the Risco de Famara, where the Mirador del Río is hidden within the volcanic landscape.
This extraordinary viewpoint, designed by Manrique and carefully integrated into the rock, offers breathtaking views across the sea towards La Graciosa and the Chinijo Archipelago.
The combination of architecture and landscape makes this one of the finest examples of Manrique's artistic vision.
Jameos del Agua: Manrique's most iconic creation
To finish our journey, we descend into the fascinating volcanic world of Jameos del Agua.
Created inside a natural volcanic tunnel, this unique space brings together architecture, music, art and nature. Its pools, gardens and underground spaces perfectly illustrate Manrique's ability to transform Lanzarote's volcanic landscape into an extraordinary cultural experience.
