https://www.lanzaroteexperiencetours.com/en/airport-transfersIf you are travelling to Lanzarote for cycling, triathlon, running, swimming or an active holiday, La Santa and Club La Santa are likely to be high on your list.

Located on Lanzarote's rugged north-west coast, La Santa is very different from the island's larger beach resorts. This is a landscape of volcanic coastline, Atlantic waves and open roads — and it has become closely associated with sport and endurance training.

Many international athletes travel here specifically to train at Club La Santa, while others choose the area for cycling, surfing or simply a quieter base from which to explore Lanzarote.

In this guide, we explain how to get from Lanzarote Airport (ACE) to La Santa and Club La Santa, including public transport, taxi, car hire and private transfers — with some particularly useful information if you are travelling with your own bicycle.

How far is La Santa from Lanzarote Airport?

La Santa is located on Lanzarote's north-west coast, in the municipality of Tinajo.

The journey is quite different from travelling to the main resorts on the east or south coast and takes you through the volcanic landscapes of the island's interior.

For our private transfer service, we allow approximately 40–50 minutes, depending on traffic and your exact destination.

When booking, it is important to specify whether you are travelling to La Santa village, Club La Santa or another accommodation in the surrounding area.

Public transport from Lanzarote Airport to La Santa

Unlike Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen, there is no direct airport bus service to La Santa.

The airport's direct public bus connections include services to Arrecife and several southern destinations, but La Santa requires onward connections. Aena currently lists Lines 22 and 23 between the airport and Arrecife, depending on the day of the week. Aena

Travelling to La Santa by public transport can therefore be economical, but it is not necessarily the easiest option after a flight — particularly if you are carrying several suitcases or sporting equipment.

If you plan to use public transport, always check the current routes and connections before travelling, as timetables can change.

Taxi from Lanzarote Airport to La Santa

Official taxis are available from the designated taxi rank outside the airport terminal.

A taxi provides a direct journey without the need to make public transport connections.

Fares are metered and depend on the applicable tariff, time and day of travel.

During busy arrival periods, particularly when several flights land within a short period, queues can form at the airport taxi rank and waiting times may be longer than usual.

If you are travelling with a bicycle or other large sports equipment, it is particularly important to consider in advance whether the available vehicle can accommodate your equipment.

Hiring a car at Lanzarote Airport

A hire car can make considerable sense in La Santa.

Unlike the larger tourist resorts, this part of Lanzarote is quieter and more rural, so having your own vehicle can provide greater freedom for exploring the island.

Several car rental companies operate at César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport.

If you are travelling with your own bicycle, remember to check whether your rental vehicle can accommodate the bike case or box as well as passengers and luggage.

Private transfer from Lanzarote Airport to La Santa & Club La Santa

If you prefer to organise your transport before arriving, Lanzarote Experience Tours offers private airport transfers to La Santa and Club La Santa.

Your driver waits for you in the arrivals terminal with a sign displaying your name and accompanies you to the vehicle.

Travelling to La Santa with your bike?

This is where travelling to La Santa can be very different from a conventional beach holiday.

Many visitors arrive in Lanzarote with their own road bike or other sporting equipment for training and competitions.

Lanzarote Experience Tours can transport one bicycle with your private airport transfer.

Bicycle capacity: 1 bicycle per transfer
Supplement: €10 per journey
Payment: cash directly to the driver
Advance notice: please tell us when booking that you will be travelling with a bicycle

This allows us to prepare the vehicle correctly before collecting you from the airport.

For cyclists arriving with a bike box or case, it is also important to tell us about your luggage when booking.

Club La Santa: Lanzarote's sports destination

Club La Santa has built an international reputation around active holidays and sports training.

Its current facilities include three 50-metre swimming pools, a saltwater lagoon for open-water swimming, running tracks, a Bike Centre and workshop, fitness facilities and a Sports Performance Studio.

The surrounding area also provides road cycling and running routes, making it particularly attractive to endurance athletes.

You certainly do not have to be a professional athlete to stay here. But if your idea of a holiday includes swimming before breakfast, cycling through volcanic landscapes and running beside the Atlantic, you will understand why La Santa attracts such a distinctive type of visitor.

Triathlon and IRONMAN Lanzarote

Triathlon has a particularly strong connection with Club La Santa.

The resort offers dedicated triathlon training facilities and camps, and its current long-distance programmes include sessions on parts of the IRONMAN Lanzarote course. Club La Santa also runs specific preparation programmes for athletes training for IRONMAN Lanzarote.

An important distinction is that the IRONMAN Lanzarote swimming course is located in Puerto del Carmen. Club La Santa's training programmes include sessions on different parts of the IRONMAN course and transport athletes to Puerto del Carmen for swim-course training.

Volcano Triathlon: a sporting tradition since 1984

La Santa also has its own important triathlon event: the Club La Santa Volcano Triathlon.

The event has been organised since 1984, and Club La Santa describes it as Spain's longest-running international triathlon. For 2027 it is offering Sprint and Olympic distances, with swimming in the saltwater lagoon and cycling and running routes through the surrounding volcanic landscape.

This is another reason why La Santa has become so closely associated with triathlon and international sports tourism.

Cycling in Lanzarote

Cycling is one of the activities most strongly associated with this part of Lanzarote.

The combination of volcanic landscapes, generally good roads, climbs and year-round mild temperatures attracts cyclists who use the island for both holidays and structured training.

Club La Santa itself has a Bike Centre and cycling facilities, while its sports programmes make extensive use of roads around the island.

For visitors bringing their own bike, organising airport transport in advance can therefore be an important part of planning the trip.

La Santa village: beyond the sports resort

La Santa is not only Club La Santa.

The nearby village of La Santa has a completely different character from Lanzarote's larger holiday resorts.

This is a small coastal community surrounded by volcanic terrain and exposed to the Atlantic, with a quieter and more local atmosphere.

The landscape is particularly striking around sunset, when the volcanic coast and ocean become the main attraction.

Surf and the Atlantic coast

The north-west coast of Lanzarote is also strongly associated with surfing.

The Atlantic conditions here are very different from the sheltered tourist beaches in the south of the island.

Nearby coastal areas attract experienced surfers, while the wider region around La Santa and Famara has become an important part of Lanzarote's surf culture.

For anyone planning to surf, conditions should always be checked locally and beaches chosen according to experience level.

La Santa as a base for exploring western Lanzarote

La Santa is also a good base for discovering a less touristy side of the island.

From this part of Lanzarote you are well positioned for exploring Tinajo, Mancha Blanca, the volcanic landscapes surrounding Timanfaya and the spectacular north-west coast towards Famara.

It is a very different experience from staying in Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca — and that is precisely part of its appeal.
